Panchakarma

Panchakarma therapy is a detoxification therapy in Ayurveda that is a set of five procedures to eliminate toxins from the body and balance the doshas. The five processes are Vamana, Niroohavasti, Nasya, Virechana and Anuvasanavasti. These are all processes carried out with the help of herbs and herbal oils that bring about detoxification in the body.

At Green Gram Wellness Village, Panchkarma techniques are done after thorough assessment of the imbalanced Doshas and determining the Prakruti, suitability of age and strength of the guest.  Panchkarma makes a person feel light, energetic, revitalised and reveals a younger person in body and mind. At Green Gram Wellness Village, we prepare a special mixture of oils and herbs for Panchakarma. We apply the herbal oils on the entire body of the patients before beginning the therapy. We call this process as “Snehana”. We carry out the process of “Swedana” after Snehana. Swedana is a process that liquefies the doshas in the body that later induces bowel movement that allows detoxification as the toxins are eliminated either through therapeutic vomiting or in the form of faeces through the rectum.

Panchakarma is not just a therapy recommended for the ones suffering with medical conditions. The therapy can be recommended for the ones who are healthy and want to maintain their health. We have explained the five processes of Panchakarma a little in detail for you to understand the therapy better.

  1. Vamana – Vamana is a critical process of Panchakarma as at Green Gram Wellness Village we ensure the process if carried out with utmost care and observation. This process involves expelling toxins by the process of purgation, hence expelling excess Kapha dosha from the body.

  2. Niruha Basti – Also called Kashaya Basti. To carry out this process, we first prepare a mixture of honey, rock salt and handpicked herbs and oils. We make the patient lie down comfortably on a bed while our specialist introduces the mixture carefully and skilfully into the rectum of the patient. We let the patient to continue lying down till they get an urge to pass stool. We then request them to take a warm water bath and consume food as per the plan.

  3. Nasya – For Nasya, we administer a custom made mixture of oils into the nostrils of the patients. This process helps clear the nasal cavity, treat infections and enables smooth deep breathing.

  4. Virechana – Virechana is also a process that brings about purgation to enable detoxification.

  5. Anuvasanavasti – This is also a process to carry out enema. In Anuvasanavasti, we introduce our special mixture of oils into the rectum carefully while the patient is comfortably laid on a wooden bed. The patient is allowed to continue lying on the bed till he experiences an urge to pass stool. We then request the patient to take a warm water bath.
